Lee Kuan Yew is born on 16 September 1923. He is a former Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore. He was the first person to hold the office, and did so from 1959 to 1990.

As leader of the People's Action Party (PAP), he oversaw the separation of Singapore from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965 and its subsequent transformation from a volatile, underdeveloped colonial outpost with no natural resources into a stable, First World Asian Tiger.
